Garage Conversion
Project Overview
This Harbor City garage conversion transformed a standard two-car garage into a fully independent accessory dwelling unit (ADU) with its own bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and separate entrance. The project required structural modifications to replace the garage door with a load-bearing wall and window assembly, new foundation work for the bathroom wet area, and completely independent MEP systems including a dedicated electrical sub-panel, plumbing stack, and mini-split HVAC. STG Design Build navigated the complex California ADU permitting process and delivered a code-compliant, rentable living space.
Scope of Work
Project Highlights
Garage conversions require navigating California's evolving ADU regulations, which govern setbacks, ceiling heights, parking replacement, and utility metering. STG's permitting expertise and design-build integration ensured this project met every requirement without costly revisions or re-submittals.
The Result
The homeowners gained a fully permitted, rent-ready living unit that generates monthly income while adding significant property value. The independent MEP systems mean the ADU operates without impacting the main home's utilities, and the quality of finishes makes it indistinguishable from purpose-built construction.
